Does he miss me? is one of the most-asked questions after a breakup or a stretch of distance. Before the spread, one honest thing: missing someone is a much weaker signal than it feels like.
Missing ≠ returning
These get treated as the same event and they aren't remotely.
- Missing is a feeling about the past. It's involuntary, it comes in waves, and it says almost nothing about intent.
- Returning is a decision about the future. It requires them to conclude that whatever ended it has changed.
Almost everyone misses an ex at some point. Very few act on it, and the ones who don't usually have a reason: the incompatibility is still there, the timing is still wrong, or the thing that broke is still broken.
So a spread that says yes, he thinks about you is not the good news it appears to be. It's compatible with him never getting in touch, which is the outcome you'd actually be planning around.
A 5-card spread
- Where they are right now. — their situation, not their feelings about you.
- What the distance has been like for them. — including whether it registered.
- What's stopping them reaching out. — if anything is.
- What would have to change. — usually structural, not emotional.
- What this is actually about for you. — the card that earns the spread.
Card 5 is the one to sit with. This question is often a proxy. Sometimes it means was I real to them, sometimes did I misread the whole thing, sometimes am I going to be okay. Those are better questions, and they're answerable in a way the original isn't.
Cards that suggest you're on their mind
- Three of Swords — the hurt landed on their side too.
- Five of Cups — looking back at what spilled. Worth remembering two cups are still standing behind that figure.
- Two of Cups — the connection registering as real, whatever else happened.
- Knight of Cups — an impulse to reach out. Note it's an impulse, not an arrival.
- Page of Cups — a message forming.
- The Moon — confusion on their side. Not clarity, and not a plan.

- Eight of Cups — a deliberate departure. The figure doesn't look back.
- Four of Cups — disengaged. Not hostile, just elsewhere.
- Six of Swords — crossed to calmer water and staying there.
- Ten of Swords — definitively over.
- The World — a chapter closed properly. This one is often read as good news and, for this question, isn't.
If the answer is yes
Then what? That's the question worth pre-answering, because "he misses me" doesn't come with instructions.
If the reading points that way and you're inclined to act, the honest checklist is short: has the thing that ended it changed? Would you be walking back into the same situation? Is your read on this based on evidence or on hope? None of that is card work — it's the thinking the spread is supposed to make room for.
The honest part
A deck cannot access another person's inner life. Anyone telling you otherwise is claiming something they can't support, and this particular question is where that overclaiming does the most damage — because it keeps people waiting on a signal that was never real.
What the spread does honestly: it moves the question from what is he feeling, which you can't know and can't influence, to what is this about for me, which is the actual live question. Most people arrive here needing the second one answered.
Read it as reflection, and give card 5 the weight.
